ARi Wins an Award

ARi recently presented a paper at the annual conference of the Sugar Industry Technologists, in collaboration with our engineering partners ESCON, entitled “SMB Chromatography as an Alternative to the Conventional Refining of Raw Cane Sugar”. We are very pleased to announce that our paper was selected by this prestigious organization of sugar refiners as the winner of the George & Eleanore Meade Award.

Pilot Equipment for Technology Development

DLE Pilot System

ARi has an extensive suite of pilot equipment that is used for process evaluation and technology development. This equipment can be flexibly configured to suit a very wide range of process configurations and operating conditions, and includes sanitary systems, explosion-proof systems and systems designed to work with highly-corrosive process streams.

Customers can also rent equipment for testing in-house at their own facility – with comprehensive support throughput the process from ARi’s specialist engineers. This is often the best solution when the feedstock for a separation cannot readily be transported to ARi’s pilot facility for testing, due to the volumes required or due to potential product deterioration. ARi also builds laboratory-scale, pilot-scale, demonstration-scale and commercial-scale equipment for customers.

Currently, as illustrated in the image above, a number of corrosion-resistant pilot-scale systems are being fabricated for use in direct lithium extraction from various brines.

New Sanitary Explosion-Proof Pilot Equipment

Fabrication of the new ARi sanitary explosion-proof pilot system

To better serve the specific needs of particular markets, such as in precision fermentation or advanced bioprocessing, ARi is currently fabricating an eight-column sanitary explosion-proof pilot system that can be used to test adsorption or ion exchange processes in a single-column operation, or in multi-column continuous operation. The system can also be configured operate as simulated moving bed chromatography system. With its explosion-proof capabilities, the system will be able to meet the needs of customers developing separation technologies using flammable solvents, and its sanitary design allows it to be used to generate pilot quantities of final products that can be directly tested in markets involving human or animal consumption.

As well as being a leading provider of adsorption, ion exchange and industrial chromatography technology and equipment to a wide range of industries worldwide, ARi offers customers a customized technology development and commercialization service. We can work with you to develop innovative processes to solve your specific separation problems. This service can include the characterization and selection of resins or adsorbents at a laboratory scale, optimization and performance testing of the separation process at a pilot scale, and / or scale-up to full commercial production on an industrial scale. This work can be done at our extensive pilot facility in Twin Falls, Idaho, or at your own site using our leased equipment and with the guidance of our knowledgeable experts.
